Canine Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a common disorder in dogs resulting from too little production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. Around 95% of adult dogs with hypothyroidism develop this condition as a result of the destruction of their thyroid gland tissue, with around half of these having an immune mediated disease as the cause. In the rest of the cases the cause remains unknown.
